Pandemic pay returns

Public news

With rising case numbers of the Omicron COVID-19 variant during winter, the Federal Government has brought back emergency pandemic leave payments until the end of September following States calling its reinstatement.

The payments provide people who have tested positive to COVID but do not have access to sick leave up to $750 in support. It is also available for people who are required to stay home and care for somebody with COVID, such as children under 16 or a person with a disability.

A positive RAT Test registered with a state or territory health authority or proof of a positive PCR test is all that is needed for a claim. Further information on the payment can be found at the Services Australia website.

Employers should also take the opportunity to remind staff of their responsibility to monitor for any symptoms of COVID and follow testing and isolation requirements. If you require any assistance relating to COVID or sick leave entitlements, the MTA Workplace Relations team is always available to help you navigate these challenging requirements.
