AUR31120 Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology
Do you love your engines large and powerful, enjoy problem solving and get excited by the thought of working on a range of impressive machinery? Then a Heavy Commercial Vehicle Technician apprenticeship may be for you!
You’ll learn how to service, repair and overhaul the mechanical parts of large diesel earthmoving and agricultural equipment such as bulldozers, trucks, buses, graders and tractors.
- Use oxy-acetylene and electric (including TIG and MIG) welding, hand fitting or machining processes to replace or repair faulty parts detection of mechanical and electrical faults by the use of instruments to check ignition timing, charging and starting circuitry, batteries, fuel injection systems and speed control, engine condition, cylinder compression, wheel balance and alignment and braking efficiency
- Diagnosing, overhauling, repairing, tuning, maintaining and testing diesel vehicles such as trucks, buses, bulldozers and other earth moving equipment, tractors and agricultural machinery
- Repairing and maintaining hydraulic components of diesel engines that are used to power attachments such as hoists, booms, buckets and scrapers

There are two ways you can complete your qualification with the MTA:
- Become employed by us and we'll find you a host business for you to work for
- Gain an apprenticeship on your own and do your training at South Australia's most progressive automotive training facility

- On the job training is delivered at your Host Employer
- Off the job training is undertaken at MTA Group Training Scheme Inc's Registered Training Organisation at Royal Park
Literacy and Numeracy Assessment:
Literacy and numeracy assessment forms part of the upfront assessment of need process to ensure individuals have the minimum levels required by DIS to access the vocational course of their choice or to demonstrate an individual is below minimum levels and therefore requires access to a foundation skills course or foundation skills bridging units.
Individuals seeking access to a Certificate II or III subsidised training place or Jobs First Employment Project must demonstrate they are at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Exit Level 2 in reading and numeracy.
Recognition of Prior Learning:
