November vehicle and motorcycle registration reports

Total new and used vehicle registrations for November in SA produced 33,776 registrations. This represents a 3.5% decrease Year-over-Year with 1,199 less vehicles registered than in November 2017 and a 3.0% decrease on October this year.

In regards to new vehicle sales, nationally, November produced 93,860 units, down 7.4% Year-over-Year. However, the month was up 3.5% on October this year. This further reduces the Year-to-Date comparison with 2017 to 1.9%.

Locally, SA fared slightly better, down 2.4% Year-over-Year (6,179 compared to 6,330 last November) and up 12% on October. This equates to 2% down Year-to-Date compared to 2017.

SUV’s continue to lead the charge by vehicle type in November, nationally taking 42.6% of the market share and 46.3% in South Australia.

Used (Light vehicle) registrations (including first time registered in SA, which could be made up of interstate transfers, for example) totaled 27,150. This was 2% down on November last year (-527 units) and 3% down on October this year (-812 units).

Motorcycles saw positive and negatives for November. In regards to total registrations. There were 1,882 total registrations (new and used). This is 1% down on November 2017 (-27 units) and up 2.0% on October (+37 units).

New motorcycle registrations (at 343 units) were up 33 units on October this year and up by 15 units on November 2017.

November’s used motorcycle registrations of 1,539 were 42 units down on November 2017 and 4 units up on October this year.

Dealer to private motorcycle registrations had their strongest month in November for the year at 141 units.
