Northern Territory Apprentice Mentoring

Public news

Support for automotive apprentices is set to receive a significant boost, with the MTA partnering with the NT Government to deliver mentoring services to all first year apprentices in the Northern Territory.

This program was first announced at last year's 2021 TIO Automotive Apprentice of the Year Awards by Minister for Jobs and Skills, Paul Kirby which will see the MTA provide tailored and targeted mentoring while also working with employers to make sure we retain as many as possible during this critical first year.

The MTA is currently recruiting for the position of Automotive Industry Careers Mentor and we look forward to introducing our latest team member to the NT automotive industry very soon.

The latest apprenticeship data from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research shows automotive apprenticeship commencements in the Northern Territory are up 4.1% year on year. As we continue to bring fresh blood into industry, it is important that apprentices have the support they need to continue their bright future in automotive.

Taking on a new apprentice is single biggest thing the industry can do to tackle skill shortages in automotive and with the Federal Government's 50% wage subsidy program for new starters scheduled to finish on 31 March 2022, now is the time to lock in a new apprentice.
