In March, South Australia produced a total of 32,516 new and used registrations, representing a 5% decrease year-over-year with 1,554 less vehicles registered than in March 2018.
Nationally, March produced 99,442 units, down 7.1% year-over-year (7,546 units). However, new vehicle sales were up by 14% over February.
South Australia produced 6,927 units. This is up 9.4% on March 2018 and up 29% over February.
SUV’s continue to lead the market in South Australia with 46.6% of the share. Passenger vehicles took 28.8% of the share and other vehicles took 24.6% in March.
The year-over-year comparison of March registrations from 2018 to 2019 are as follows:
New Cars (light vehicles) down by 8% (-488) – 5537 units
Motorcycles down by 18% (-49) – 221 units
Tractors and Industrial Machinery down by 12% (-25) – 178 units
Caravans down by 9% (-23) – 235 units
Truck and Bus up by 3% (+7) – 229 units
Used (Light vehicle) registrations (including first time registered in SA, which could be made up of interstate transfers, for example) totalled 26,412. This was again 3% down Year-over-Year (-685 units) and on par with February’s.
Dealer sales totalled 5,316 in March. This is up 178 units Year-over-Year (+3.5%).
In March, the private market totalled 13,739 vehicle transfers. This is down 7.3% Year-over-Year (14,813 units transferred in March 2018).
When comparing the first quarter of 2019 to 2018, we can see that Dealer sales are up by 0.6% and the private market is down by 6%.
In regards to motorcycle registrations in South Australia in March, there were 1,784 total registrations (new and used). This is 6% down on March 2018 (-118 units) and on par with February’s results.
New registrations (at 221 units) were down 18% year-over-year (-49 units).
Used registrations in March totalled 1,519, 4% down on year-over-year (-70 units) and slightly up on February by 33 units.
Private registrations (at 143 units) were up on the past two March results (111 and 102 respectively).
