67% of road users don’t understand compulsory third party insurance

Public news

A survey conducted by Queensland Law firm Smith’s Lawyers, has shown that 67 per cent of road users don’t understand the coverage their compulsory third party insurance gives them.

Only 33 per cent of road users correctly identified that their policy only covered them for an injury to other motorists and road users but not damage to cover the cost of vehicles or property.

This startling data is important for the Crash Repair Industry and the MTA’s Body Repair Specialists Division as many of their customers may be expecting insurance to cover their vehicle when in actual fact, they don’t have the level of cover necessary to cover costs.

The MTA will be highlighting to the State Government the importance of continued awareness to drivers in regards to the different types of insurance and what protections they actually provide.
