In June, South Australia produced a total of 31,949 new and used registrations, representing a 8.3% decrease year-over-year, with 2,888 less vehicles registered than in June 2018 and 5.7% down on May this year.
Nationally, June produced a total of 117,817 units, down 9.6% year-over-year. As expected, there was an increase on May however, up 27%.
Locally, South Australia reported 6,953 sales. This is down 9.3% year-over-year (709 units) and up 24% on May this year.
The year-over-year comparison of June registrations are as follows:
- New Cars (light vehicles) down by 9% (-650) – 6,456 units
- Motorcycles up by 8% (+19) – 245 units
- Tractors and Industrial Machinery down by 1% (-2) – 194 units
- Caravans down by 17% (-37) – 175 units
- Truck and Bus down by 22% (-67) – 235 units
Used (Light vehicle) registrations (including first time registered in SA, which could be made up of interstate transfers, for example) totalled 24,975 (this includes all registrations including trade-ins, wholesale deals etc). This was 6.8% down Year-over-Year (-1,822 units) and 9.7% down on May.
June: Dealer sales totalled 5,366 for the month. This is down 1.0% (50 units) Year-over-Year (5,416 units transferred in 2018). YTD: Dealer sales total 32,321. Same time in 2018 the number was 32,222.
June: private market totalled 12,499 vehicle transfers. This is down 8.2% (1,116 units) Year-over-Year (13,615 units transferred in June 2018). YTD: Private market is 81,037. Same time in 2018 the number was 86,927.
In relation to motorcycles, There were 1,445 total registrations (new and used). This is 1% down on June 2018 (-15 units) and 10% down on May.
New registrations (at 245 units) were up 8% Year-over-Year (+19 units). This puts the YTD result at 16% down on 2018.
June’s Used registrations of 1,170 were 3% down Year-over-Year (-33 units) and down 14.6% on May.
Dealer to Private registrations, at 118 units, like the last three months, was up on the previous two June results (104 and 101 respectively). This is a very positive period for the second-hand motorcycle market.
Private to Private sales – in 2018 77.8% of used bike sales were Private to Private. The current YTD percentage has dropped slightly to 77.1%.
