In July, South Australia produced a total of 36,050 new and used registrations, representing a 1% decrease year-over-year, with 465 less vehicles registered than in July 2018 and 4.7% down on June this year.
Nationally, June produced a total of 83,184 units, down 2.8% year-over-year. This may provide some relief from the average of 8.5% Year-over-Year decreases we have seen this year.
Locally, we reported 5,007 sales. This is on par with July 2018 (-15 units) and leaves us down 3% for the year.
The year-over-year comparison of June registrations are as follows:
- New Cars (light vehicles) down by 4% (-232) – 5,624 units
- Motorcycles down by 15% (-37) – 217 units
- Tractors and Industrial Machinery up by 1% (+3) – 226 units
- Caravans up by 18% (+27) – 178 units
- Truck and Bus down by 26% (-58) – 167 units
Used (Light vehicle) registrations (including first time registered in SA, which could be made up of interstate transfers, for example) totalled 30,294 (this includes all registrations including trade-ins, wholesale deals etc). This was 1.5% up Year-over-Year (+442 units) and 21% up on June.
July: Dealer sales totalled 6,178 for the month. This is up 3.4% (+204 units) Year-over-Year (5,974 units transferred in July 2018). YTD: Dealer sales total 38,499. Same time in 2018 the number was 38,196.
July: private market totalled 15,066 vehicle transfers. This is down 4.1% (-613 units) Year-over-Year (15,679 units transferred in July 2018). YTD: Private market is at 96,103. Same time in 2018 the number was 102,606.
In relation to motorcycles, there were 1,578 total registrations (new and used) in SA. This is exactly the same as 2018 and 9.2% up on June.
New registrations (at 217 units) were down 15% Year-over-Year in SA (-37 units). This puts the YTD result at 16% down on 2018.
July’s Used registrations in SA of 1,348 were 4% up Year-over-Year (+54 units) and up 15.2% on June.
Dealer to Private registrations in SA, at 136 units, in line with the last four months, was up on the previous two July results, 117 and 110 respectively. The last five months in this space have each seen increases on the previous two years. This is a very positive period for the second-hand motorcycle market.
In 2018, 77.8% of used bike sales were Private to Private. The current YTD percentage has dropped slightly to 76.7%.
