There is very good news for employers of apprentices in regional areas of South Australia who will receive a funding boost from the State Government’s Skilling South Australia initiative.
The Minister for Industry and Skills David Pisoni said that the increase reflects the needs of regional based apprentices who are required to travel more than 150km from their place of residence or work.
The Minister said, “For intrastate travel, the accommodation allowance will increase from $24 per night to $60 per night and from $60 per night to $100 per night for pre-approved training delivered in other states. Allowance payable for travel increases from $.24/km to $0.30km.”
For many automotive apprentices around the state, this will have a large impact on easing the travel burden to regional workplaces, our Training and Employment Centre in Royal Park and other sites your apprentices may be travelling to.
The allowance is a contribution towards the total cost of travel and accommodation and vital to the eligibility of an apprentice or trainee is that they must have an approved training contract registered in South Australia. The student will also have to travel more than 150km in a round trip between their regular place of residence and the nearest training venue that offers their qualification.
