Recent forklift accidents in the Northern Territory have once again prompted regulators across both the NT and SA to focus on forklift safety.
Businesses are reminded that they have a duty of care to ensure forklift operators are provided with information, training and clear instructions to perform the task safely. This includes information about forklift stability when carrying loads, which has been identified as a common risk.
Businesses should ensure that only licensed forklift drivers are operating forklifts, that forklifts are correctly maintained and serviced, and that appropriate training and procedures are in place for all tasks involving forklifts, including ensuring safe separation from pedestrians.
