We, along with the Australia Automobile Dealers Association (SA) Division and the MTAA, have been advocating for an Automotive Specific Franchising Code of Conduct for some time.

Pre-Federal Election, the previous Federal Labor Government committed to addressing issues surrounding franchising in the automotive industry and it is positive that work has continued.

We are pleased to notify our franchise dealer members that the Morrison Government has officially committed to considering a range of reforms to automotive franchising arrangements.

The Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, Hon Karen Andrews MP last week, identified the need for creating a level playing field between franchisors and franchisees. You can read her Media Release by clicking here.

Our Working Group earlier in the year provided valuable input into the Regulatory Impact Statement submission earlier in the year. Draft regulations will be produced in the coming months and we will once again engage dealers for their input.

Many MTA members have wanted the Federal Government to address the issues surrounding franchising for a long time and your continued input into our advocacy will be essential moving forward.
