Coronavirus and keeping staff safe

Public news

Coronavirus has dominated the media for the past couple of weeks and SafeWork Australia is reminding businesses that they must have measures in place to protect employees from risks such as this.

In Australia, the model WHS laws require a Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of their employees and others at the workplace. This includes providing and maintaining a work environment that is without risks to health and safety.

The MTA can assist your business in understanding PCBU and WHS obligations in the workplace. Click here to contact the MTA’s Workplace Relations team for advice or training.

The MTA has also received official advice from the Federal Government, Department of Health about Coronavirus in relation to the RTO (students and staff) as a VET provider.

Further information from the Department of Health can be found by clicking here. This page will be updated if advice changes.
